ownership culture and celebrating Veterans Day

At Catamount, some of our employee-owners take on more than one role. They serve their country while building careers that require focus, accountability, and teamwork every day. Balancing military service, whether active, reserve, or retired, with life at Catamount demands discipline, support, and a culture that values ownership. This Veterans Day, we celebrate how our ownership culture empowers those who serve, honoring the dedication, leadership, and commitment that define both their military and professional lives.

For Evan, a Catamount employee-owner and team leader who also serves in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve, that ownership culture has made balancing both responsibilities possible. “The nature of the Reserve is unpredictable. Beyond regular training and admin work, you can be called up at a moment’s notice for weeks or months on end,” he shared. “During Hurricane Helene, for example, I was recalled and deployed a day into a vacation with my fiancé. Without her understanding and support, I couldn’t do what I do. Family is critical when service commitments cause disruptions.”

That same understanding, he says, defines Catamount’s response. “When I was deployed unexpectedly, the team immediately rallied to cover projects and daily responsibilities. They checked in on my fiancé and me throughout the deployment. That kind of flexibility and empathy make all the difference. Without Catamount’s support and ownership culture, balancing both demands would be nearly impossible.”

This spirit of teamwork and compassion reflects what it means to be an employee-owner: stepping up for one another, taking responsibility, and ensuring the team succeeds together.

Evan adds that his service experience has strengthened his leadership at Catamount. “My experience in the Coast Guard reinforced a simple truth that guides my approach today: if you focus on developing and caring for your people, they’ll take care of the mission. The same is true in business. When leaders invest in their teams through trust, development, and accountability, the results follow naturally. I like that I can carry this leadership philosophy into my work every day. My goal is to support and develop our employee-owners, clear the way, and watch them do incredible things.”

That mindset aligns seamlessly with Catamount’s ESOP culture, where every employee has a vested interest in the company’s success. Ownership inspires people to act with purpose, support one another through challenges, and take pride in results.

This Veterans Day, we celebrate our 26 employee-owners who have worn the uniform. Their dedication, both in the field and on the jobsite, strengthens our culture and highlights the values of trust, accountability, and teamwork they demonstrate every day.
