Catamount’s internship programs have been educating and investing in the future of the construction industry for over 20 years. Students from across the country come to Catamount to receive hands-on experience with our preconstruction, operations, and project management teams – we’re proud to say that 15 colleges were represented in our Summer 2023 intern class! As we gear up for another great year, we extend our gratitude to those who have helped make our internship and co-op programs so successful.

We sat down recently with Catamount’s VP of People, Emily Livorsi, to chat about Catamount’s culture, what makes Catamount’s internship programs unique, and why she’s excited about the future of construction.

To start things off, we’d like to know – how would you describe Catamount’s culture to someone who has never worked here before?
Catamount’s ESOP is a big part of what unifies the culture here – being an employee-owner means we all feel responsible for our own work and results, we all focus on the future growth of our business, and everyone strives to empower each other daily. When you put all those things together, you get a group of passionate people who really enjoy working together!

What makes Catamount stand out in terms of leadership and growth opportunities offered?
I’m really amazed by how many of our senior leaders are deeply dedicated to mentoring and coaching our next generation! I’ve seen a lot of companies where mentoring feels forced. I’m proud to say we are building a mentorship culture where our leaders want to give back and it shows.

We also have multiple formal programs that cover everything from building future business leaders, to management 101, to wellness training, to technical skill growth. There are so many opportunities to grow here at Catamount!

Can you tell us a little bit about Catamount’s internship program?
Catamount has a longstanding internship program – it’s been ingrained in our DNA for over 20 years! In fact, some of our longest tenured employees started as interns! Our program intentionally focuses on exposing students to all parts of what it means to work at a GC, which means that our interns will typically get exposed to some preconstruction, project management, and field related work. We aim to help our interns learn more about themselves, the industry, and Catamount to set them on a path to success. We want our interns to look back years from now and say, “Wow, that internship was such an outstanding learning experience!”

What would you say to a student interested in applying for an internship at Catamount?
I would say be ready to lean in, learn a ton, and stay curious! We know you’ll have a wonderful experience learning about the industry and yourself. Don’t be afraid to raise your hand and ask questions about the business. At Catamount, our people will make time for you, so plan to reach out and have a coffee chat with someone outside of your immediate team!

It’s clear that Catamount is passionate about investing in the next generation of industry professionals. Why are you excited about the future of construction?
The evolution of the construction industry depends upon new ideas, new technologies, and new processes. The folks that will continue moving the industry forward are the students in our internship program. Our interns are our future!
