Construction is built on leadership.
It starts with preparation. It requires disciplined execution. It depends on clear communication and the willingness to step forward when challenges arise. Across Catamount’s offices and job sites, women demonstrate these qualities daily. They lead teams, improve collaboration, and deliver work that shapes communities for generations.
As a 100% employee-owned company, ownership at Catamount means driving performance, investing in relationships, and moving forward with purpose. It involves showing up authentically and taking pride in the work we accomplish together.
To celebrate Women in Construction Week 2026, we asked women across our company to share what being a woman in construction means to them. These comments reflect the same principles that guide our projects every day.
The Strength of Perspective
Strong projects are built by teams that communicate clearly, trust each other, and bring different perspectives to the table. When people approach challenges from various angles, teams solve problems faster, and projects progress with greater confidence.
“There’s a lot of evidence that diverse teams offer more innovative solutions, and women are a part of that!” said Lara V. “Women often take a different approach to managing workload, tasks, people, and challenges, and I think that helps move the industry forward.”
That perspective enhances collaboration across project teams.
“AEC is a collaborative environment, and true collaboration requires differing perspectives,” said Michelle C. “The projects we build serve everyone. Having women involved in the design and construction process brings different experiences and needs, including considerations like safety and accessibility.”
Clear communication and strong coordination are essential on any project. For Heather T., those skills are what make strong teams stand out. “Two major skills needed for what we do every day are excellent communication and problem-solving. I believe women excel in these areas, and we are also highly collaborative. These skills make us vital to our teams. We can bring diverse groups together, drive results, and ensure clarity.”
Emily L. sees the impact extending beyond individual projects to the future of the industry. “Women are vital to our industry. They bring diverse experiences, perspectives, and leadership styles that strengthen teams and improve projects. Plus, there’s simple math: facing a serious labor shortage, we can’t afford to overlook a broader talent pool. Attracting and promoting women is one of the smartest ways to help solve the industry’s workforce challenge.”
As Ginnie C. expressed, “We embody the power of diversity, enriching the industry with fresh perspectives, creative problem-solving, and a balanced approach to building the future.”
When teams unify different experiences, communicate openly, and work toward a common goal, projects advance with clarity, confidence, and better results.
Stepping Forward to Lead
At Catamount, leadership is earned through performance and strengthened through experience.
For Alison W., growth happens one challenge at a time. “I am proud of the way I am able to take on challenges. Every new job site presents me with a new set of problems to solve and a new finish line. I learn and grow with each new challenge. I love seeing projects that I have built successfully and thinking of the challenges I overcame.”
Hilary S. sees leadership in momentum and follow-through. “It’s rewarding to see something go from a proposal on paper to a real building in the community.”
For Yvette R., mentorship reinforced both craft and confidence. “When I sought out someone from an older generation who was willing to take me under their wing, teach me tips and tricks of the trade, and pass on their trade secrets, it truly spiked my passion for carpentry.”
Callie W. reflects on the pride that comes from balancing ambition and purpose. “I’m very proud to be a working mom. I can’t wait for my son to grow up and see that his mom is working hard for him and doing something she loves.”
And as Eva T. shared, “Seeing women in leadership positions and who are well-respected and at the top of their game” reinforces what is possible for the next generation.
Leadership grows through preparation. It deepens through mentorship. It is strengthened when success is shared across teams.
Why the Work Matters
Construction leaves a lasting mark on the communities we serve.
Elaine K. clearly sees that impact. “I love the impact our industry makes on the world. Where we all live, the places we shop, work, dine… they are all created by this industry. Our impact is so visible and important.”
For Alexus S., fulfillment comes from connecting the details to the bigger picture. “There’s something incredibly rewarding about stepping onto a jobsite and seeing that work come to life. It keeps me connected to the bigger picture and reminds me why the details matter.”
Jennifer H. sees continued progress in action. “Women are an essential part of the AEC industry, bringing diverse perspectives, stronger collaboration, and innovative problem-solving to projects of every scale… creating space to empower women and amplify their phenomenal impact on design excellence, complex industry challenges, and successful project outcomes.”
Each project represents coordination, trust, and commitment. The standards are high because the work matters.
The Next Generation of Leaders
“You belong here just as much as anyone else,” said Valerie G. “Construction needs different perspectives, problem-solvers, and leaders, and being a woman is an asset, not a limitation.”
At Catamount, leadership is rooted in ownership. It shows up in the way we drive performance, enjoy strong relationships, move forward with purpose, share success across teams, and lead authentically.
The women across our offices and jobsites embody those values every day. They strengthen teams. They elevate standards. They invest in the next generation. They build with purpose.
Women in Construction Week 2026 offers an opportunity to recognize their leadership.
Every week, that leadership drives performance and raises the standard across our teams.
If you are considering a career in construction, step forward. Bring your perspective. Bring your work ethic. Bring your authenticity.
There is room here to grow.
There is room here to contribute.
There is room here to lead.
And at Catamount, when one of us succeeds, we all share in that success.
