Safety isn’t just a task to check off at Catamount Constructors; it’s a core value that drives how we show up for each other every day. As we observe 2025 National Safety Month, we’re taking time to reflect on the substantial progress we’ve made, highlighting what’s working, and recommitting to the mindset that keeps our project teams safe, engaged, and empowered.

Catamount is proud to support the National Safety Council’s 2025 National Safety Month by embracing its four weekly focus areas. Throughout June, our teams will spotlight:

Week 1: Continuous Improvement – Enhancing processes to reduce risk and boost reliability
Week 2: Employee Engagement – Empowering every team member to own safety on and off the job site
Week 3: Roadway Safety – Prioritizing safe travel for teams, equipment, and communities we serve
Week 4: Well-being – Supporting the whole person to foster a stronger, more resilient workforce

These weekly themes align with Catamount’s everyday commitment to a culture of safety, one that protects our teams, keeps projects on track, and brings added value to every client partnership.

These themes will be shared across job sites and office locations throughout the month, with meetings, check-ins, and resources. As our Director of Safety, Dan Medaglia, explains, the real power of Safety Month lies in what happens between the handouts—when our teams live out these values.

“Our employee-owners are our most valuable asset,” says Dan. “If we don’t take care of our team, we don’t have a company, period.”

Safety in Action

One standout example of our safety culture in action is a 39,485-square-foot industrial design-build expansion currently under construction within an active, operational facility. With the added complexity of building in a live environment, our team took a proactive, strategic approach to safety.

To keep safety top of mind, the team implemented a weekly safety raffle—not just as an incentive, but as a daily reminder of what it means to be prepared and accountable. That mindset was recognized during a recent comprehensive OSHA inspection, where the site was praised as one of the best-run construction projects the inspector had reviewed.

For our clients, this isn’t just a win, it’s a testament to how Catamount’s culture of safety helps ensure smoother execution, fewer disruptions, and greater peace of mind throughout the project’s lifecycle. “Each project is a fresh start and when you start getting momentum, you really have to capitalize on it,” says Dan. “We want safety to be something people gravitate to, not something they fear.”

Making Safety Personal

Catamount’s safety culture is also about creating space for respectful accountability. Dan credits our project teams for encouraging “safety courage,” whether that’s pointing out missing safety glasses or reminding visitors about proper PPE.

“We don’t preach; we talk to people. That’s the difference,” Dan explains. “People can tell when you’re just giving them lip service. They need to feel and understand the passion behind it.”

“During my first job walk, I was impressed by how naturally safety showed up on site,” said Jack Carmone, Recruiter with Catamount. “Our project superintendent respectfully reminded project partners to adjust their PPE to meet our standards, and no one hesitated or brushed it off. It was clear safety isn’t just talked about, it’s practiced by everyone, every day. That kind of culture doesn’t happen by accident.”

Celebrating Progress

This past year, Catamount implemented two major safety improvements that reflect both our commitment to continuous improvement and our ability to adapt:

New Safety Helmets: Our upgraded helmets offer enhanced protection from all angles, including side and rear impacts, delivering a higher standard of safety than traditional hard hats and reinforcing our commitment to continuous improvement.

• 100% Hand Protection Policy: With a focus on prevention and long-term well-being, we introduced a 100% glove requirement across all job sites. It’s a simple step to make a big impact, protecting one of the most important tools our teams rely on every day.

“There’s no way around it—there’s a financial impact to safety,” says Dan. “But more importantly, there’s a human one. That’s why we do what we do.”

Looking Ahead

This June, we’re not just recognizing 2025 National Safety Month, we’re reinforcing the standards designed to protect our employee-owners and project partners to strengthen project outcomes. By building on proven practices and gathering insight through our annual Safety Culture Survey, we’re continuously improving how we operate on every project.

At Catamount, safety isn’t a program, it’s a core value that drives performance. A strong safety culture means fewer disruptions, greater efficiency, and more predictable results. It’s how we protect our teams and help our clients build with confidence.

“Safety isn’t just about rules, it’s about creating the conditions where people can do their best work,” said Dan. “When our teams feel safe and supported, our projects run smoother, and our clients see the difference.”
