This week marks Women in Construction Week, and we are excited to share stories from a few of our female employee-owners, who represent 18% of our Catamount Constructors team – double the industry average of 9.1%!
Emily is a female employee-owner at Catamount Constructors and her role is Lead Estimator. She is based out of our Atlanta office.
What are you most proud of doing in your career?
That’s a great question. I think just finding what I love doing and finding a way to do it.
What unique skills do you think women bring to the AEC industry?
I think it’s more a really good people thing than just a woman thing. Finding people who are really passionate about what they do, dedicated, hardworking, and share their passion and enthusiasm for it.
Who has been your strongest industry advocate or mentor? What has it meant to you to have them be a part of your career progression?
I don’t necessarily have one specific person that comes to mind, but I’ve been super fortunate to have great managers and colleagues since the beginning of my career who have been really supportive. When they moved on or were promoted, they thought of me. I’ve been really fortunate to have some great role models, and people at each stage of my career that have helped encourage me and give me direction.
What is the best advice you have received in your career?
Stay true to yourself and be authentic.
What would you say to a woman interested in joining the construction industry?
I would say go for it! Don’t be afraid to try new things. You might be surprised to find out what you absolutely love. I always thought I wanted to go to the project management group, but I found I have an absolute love for preconstruction. I would have never known that had I not tried it!
Catamount Constructors’ female employee-owners play a vital role in our culture. They contribute significantly to our workplace environment and provide unique perspectives and skills that enhance our team’s performance.
