Tampa construction growth

Growth, Project Diversification, and a Market Taking Notice

When Catamount opened its Tampa Bay office in 2023, the goal was clear: support clients in a growing commercial construction market with the same disciplined execution that defines our work nationwide.

What’s followed is purposeful growth.

“Opening the Tampa office was opportunistic, strategic, and entrepreneurial all in one,” said James Benning, Chief Executive Officer. “We had an opportunity to grow our revenue with key clients, in part at their suggestion. It was entrepreneurial because the idea originated with leadership in the Industrial business unit and aligned with our broader strategy of geographic diversification in growing Sunbelt states. This expansion fits our DNA.”

The expansion into Tampa was initiated by Stephanie Martinez, Vice President, Industrial, who identified an opportunity to better support clients in Tampa’s growing commercial construction market. This approach reflects how Catamount grows—empowering employee-owners to act on client needs and market opportunities.

That combination of client demand, internal leadership, and market confidence continues to shape how our Tampa team is growing today.

GROWTH ROOTED IN CLIENT DEMAND

From the start, Catamount’s expansion into Florida was about strengthening existing relationships and reinforcing our ability to serve clients already building in the region.

In just a few years, the Tampa Bay team has become a regional hub, managing projects across multiple Florida markets. Today, the team oversees 11 active projects, supported by a 2025 annual revenue of $123 million and a growing backlog exceeding $203 million, reflecting sustained demand.

That growth is a direct result of trust. Clients are returning, new clients are partnering with Catamount, and projects are expanding in size and complexity, driven by consistent performance and strong partnerships.

PROJECT DIVERSITY STRENGTHENS DELIVERY

Tampa’s growth is driven by the wide range of projects taking shape across the market.

Rather than focusing on a single market, the team is executing across multiple Catamount core markets, including industrial, healthcare, and commercial projects, giving Catamount the flexibility to support clients as their needs evolve and to deliver consistently in an evolving market.

Projects like PM-International Americas Headquarters – Phase 1 demonstrate this versatility. The 48,500-square-foot facility combines office, warehouse, production, and lab space, requiring coordination across multiple building systems, end users, and operational requirements.

At the same time, healthcare work, such as the Exalt Health facilities, introduces a different level of complexity, with specialized environments, advanced systems, and strict regulatory requirements that demand precision and coordination. These projects reinforce the team’s depth of expertise across the markets it serves.

Having expertise across a wider range of markets enables the team to deliver everything from large-scale distribution and logistics facilities to highly specialized healthcare environments, each executed with the same discipline, precision, and accountability clients nationwide expect.

A MARKET TAKING NOTICE

As the Tampa team’s portfolio expands, the work is gaining recognition across the Florida market.

Catamount was recently named a finalist for General Contractor of the Year by NAIOP Tampa Bay. PM-International Americas Headquarters – Phase 1 was also named a finalist for Project of the Year (Under 50,000 SF). Further south, the team was also recognized as a finalist by NAIOP South Florida for Glades Logistics Park, a 354,200 SF ground-up logistics facility featuring two buildings across 32 acres.

These recognitions reflect the quality of the work being delivered, the strength of Catamount’s expertise, and the partnerships that support continued growth across Florida.

That momentum continues to create new opportunities across the region. Catamount was recently selected to deliver a new 60,000 SF Publix Supermarket in Wesley Chapel, Florida, further expanding the team’s portfolio in grocery retail construction.

LOCAL COMMITMENT, NATIONAL STRENGTH

Growth in Tampa has been intentional since day one.

That commitment is reinforced by on-the-ground leadership. Mitch Brown, Senior Vice President, recently relocated to oversee Florida operations. He brings deep experience across multiple markets and a focus on aligning teams, strengthening client relationships, and driving consistent execution across Florida.

Catamount invested early in leadership, aligned teams ahead of demand, and built relationships with local partners. As the team has grown, it recently relocated from East Tampa to a new office in Downtown Tampa, reinforcing its long-term commitment to the market. That foundation enables the team to operate with the consistency and accountability clients nationwide expect while remaining responsive to local market dynamics.

For an employee-owned company, that approach carries added weight. Employee-owners are empowered to make decisions, solve problems, and take responsibility for outcomes in real time. That ownership mindset shows in how projects are won and delivered and in how relationships are built.

Equally important is the team’s commitment to the Tampa Bay community. Through volunteer efforts, local engagement, and ongoing partnerships, Catamount is investing in the same communities where its employee-owners live and work.

WHAT COMES NEXT

The trajectory in Florida is clear.

With sustained client demand and a growing project portfolio, Catamount recently relocated to a larger office in Tampa, emphasizing its long-term commitment to the Florida market.

The strategy remains the same: go where clients need us, invest in our employee-owners, diversify across markets, and deliver with discipline.

“We are extremely excited about our Florida growth over the next few years,” Benning said.

In Tampa, Catamount continues to deliver for clients, expand its Florida footprint, and build strong partnerships that drive long-term success.
